Overview
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Equipment Technician to join our team in Durham! Reporting to the Equipment Supervisor and working on a continental shift pattern, you will be joining an established, supportive team during an exciting period of growth at the company, as we scale and move into high-volume manufacturing.
You will be responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of semiconductor manufacturing equipment matters, working across all our 300mm semiconductor production lines to minimise tool down time and exceed equipment uptime targets.
You will collaborate closely with the Engineering, Production, and Process teams, ensuring equipment availability, process efficiency, and compliance with cleanroom and safety protocols.
We are looking for candidates with demonstrable experience of electrical/mechanical fault-finding, as well as a proactive and positive approach. You will be joining a critical team at Pragmatic which offers the opportunity to learn new skills and tools, as well as genuine career progression.
Please note, we will not be able to offer Visa sponsorship for this position; therefore candidates will be required to demonstrate evidence of right to live and work in the UK (and be based at our manufacturing site in Durham).
Key tasks
Perform hands-on troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of semiconductor equipment
Ensure timely preventive maintenance (PMs) and minimise equipment downtime
Support production goals by resolving equipment issues quickly and effectively
Train and mentor junior technicians in standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety practices
Interface with engineering and process teams to support EIT projects
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, tool histories, and repair logs
Enforce cleanroom and ESD protocols
Participate in audits and safety inspections
Work alongside Engineers on installations, commissioning, upgrades, preventative maintenance and repairs of all production tools
Qualifications and training
Candidates will ideally be educated to HNC/BTEC/NVQ level or above in an Engineering discipline, or will possess equivalent practical experience. Semiconductor equipment training / experience of a Production MES system would be beneficial.
Skills and experience
Experience within a high-volume manufacturing environment (or an environment that demonstrates the ability to work cross-functionally and at pace)
Ability to meet deadlines and manage own time and workload using excellent organisational skills
Ability to systematically fault-find on complex equipment
Working as part of a team and to work alone using own initiative
Able to create guidance notes for maintenance tasks to be performed
Knowledge of semiconductor tools and processes (advantage)
Knowledge of ESD protocol and 5S methodology (advantage)
Experience with Chemical and Gas Systems (advantage)
Experience working on HV and LV Systems (advantage)
Experience of Robotics and PLC Systems (advantage)
Experience on Vacuum Process Systems (advantage)
Extensive use of Hand Tools and Test Equipment (advantage)
