Overview
As part of our continued expansion and transition into high-volume manufacturing, we have a new opportunity at Pragmatic for an outstanding Defect Reduction Engineer to join our growing Operations function at our 300mm semiconductor manufacturing facility in Durham.
Reporting to the Senior Manager - Defect Reduction, you will play a critical role in increasing product quality and improving production yield and will lead efforts to identify, analyse and reduce defects across all stages of semiconductor fabrication. You will be responsible for developing, implementing and optimising defect reduction strategies, ensuring high product yield, and enhancing overall process efficiency.
The role requires a strong background in semiconductor process engineering, statistical analysis and problem-solving skills to drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The role will also involve close collaboration with manufacturing, design and quality assurance teams in order to ensure that our products meet stringent performance and reliability criteria. We are therefore seeking candidates with excellent communication skills, in addition to technical expertise.
A highly competitive benefits package is on offer, with Visa and Relocation support available, as well as significant opportunities for growth and progression.
Key tasks
- Responsibility for driving activities which lead to reduction of D0 across all production lines and ensure product yield is as high as possible
- Ownership of Automatic Optical Inspection Processes:
- Setup of new recipes/products
- Ongoing developments of recipes to improve sensitivity and throughput - Providing analysis between detected defectivity and product yield to gain an understanding of defects and identify corrective actions
- Collaborate with process, production, and operational teams to develop and optimise effective defect detection and prevention strategies in order to drive high product yield
- Conduct root cause analysis of defects and implement corrective actions
- Provide technical support and training to cross-functional teams on defect-related issues and drive continuous improvement
Qualifications and training
You will Ideally qualified to minimum Bachelor’s or Master’s degree level in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or you will possess equivalent experience in a semiconductor manufacturing environment)
Skills and experience
Essential:
- Strong understanding of defect analysis techniques and methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma, FMEA, root cause analysis)
- Experience in leading defect reduction projects with a demonstrated track record of yield improvement
- Previous experience in setting up and maintaining AOI toolsets
- Significant experience in semiconductor manufacturing, with a focus on defect reduction and yield improvement
- Experience in using Failure Analysis, statistical process control (SPC) and statistical tools to drive defect reduction and process optimisation
- Experience with semiconductor fabrication processes and technologies such as Photolithography, Etch, Deposition and Packaging
- Knowledge of semiconductor industry standards, quality control, and regulatory requirements
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work across multiple functions and teams
Desirable:
- Experience with advanced semiconductor processes (e.g. 3D IC, FinFET, EUV)
