Overview
As part of our continued expansion, we have a fantastic opportunity at Pragmatic Semiconductor for a Senior/Staff Engineer to join our growing R&D team and lead the research and development of Pragmatic's next generation thin film transistors. Based in the North East of England and reporting to the Director - Emerging Technologies, you will collaborate with teams across Process Development, Process Integration as well as external partners to demonstrate, develop and implement groundbreaking architectures for next generation technology nodes.
We are seeking candidates with extensive expertise in thin film transistor (TFT) technologies including device architectures, processing, characterisation and materials science. Given the multi-functional nature of the role, we are looking for a team player with excellent communication and the ability to build relationships.
A highly competitive benefits package is on offer, with Visa and Relocation support available, as well as significant opportunities for growth and progression.
Key tasks
- Drive the development and architecture of next generation thin film transistors working alongside process development team on capabilities like PECVD processes for dielectric and semiconductor thin films, crystallisation, doping and implantation technologies.
- Serve as the primary R&D lead and refine physical, chemical, and electrical metrics needed for the thin films and devices by defining correlations between device performance, material properties and manufacturing processes
- Establish comprehensive internal and external technology development strategies
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers to develop and qualify new platforms
- Establish process control methods and specifications for new films
- Provide technical leadership in solving sophisticated process issues
- Guide junior engineers in process development and characterisation techniques
- Author technical documentation including process specifications and qualification reports
- Support technology transfer of new processes from R&D to manufacturing
- Present technical results to senior management and external partners
Qualifications and training
Candidates will ideally be educated to Master’s degree level (or equivalent) in subjects like Physics, Electronics, Thin films or Material Science.
PhD qualification in a relevant subject (or proven semiconductor industry experience) would be preferable.
Skills and experience
- Experience in architecture, fabrication, and physics of inorganic thin film transistors and devices
- Experience in material science of inorganic semiconductor and dielectric thin films
- Experience in semiconductor fabrication processes like CVD, ion implantation, crystallisation, PVD, ALD, dry/wet etching, etc
- Proficiency in thin film characterisation techniques like ellipsometry, XRR, XRD, Raman, AFM, 4pp, Hall effect measurement
- Experience in electrical characterisation of thin film devices like IV, CV etc
- Understanding of DoE methodology
- In depth experience of thin film technologies for integrated circuits, display, Sensor and MEMS applications (desirable)
- Ability to use R/Python/JMP to carry out large-data set analysis (desirable)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Superb communication skills and technical writing abilities
- Ability to work independently but also in a team
- Proven project leadership experience
